How many panels fit on your roof
Enter your roof dimensions and see instantly how many panels you can fit. The occupancy toggle gives a range (75% conservative – 100% maximum) to cover chimneys, dormers and walking lanes.
Estimate

These numbers are indicative only. Only an installer visiting your home can tell you exactly how many panels will fit and how they'll be positioned on your roof.
How panel count is estimated on a roof
The estimator uses a simple geometric model: length × width × number of slopes (roof faces), divided by panel area. Standard panel size is ~1.7 m × 1.0 m, with a 2 cm minimum gap between frames. The occupancy percentage you choose (75% conservative – 100% maximum) covers natural variations: chimneys, dormers, Velux windows, antennas, and service walkways. The estimator does NOT automatically detect these obstacles — you decide via the occupancy slider how much usable space remains.
Estimate limits
The model ignores three important factors: shading (from trees, neighbors, your own chimney), roof structure (snow load reserve in mountain areas, rafter condition, roof material), and specific obstacles (dormers, large Velux, vents). For a steep roof (>45°), usable area shrinks because of mounting structure angles — in practice fewer panels fit than the estimator shows. The estimate is indicative; the final number comes only after an on-site assessment and a structural check.
From estimate to next steps
With the number in hand, you have three concrete steps: (1) compare it with a simple cad sketch — any installer can do a free sketch from a roof photo; (2) request quotes from 2–3 installers in your area, using the number as a starting point; (3) use the capacity calculator to see how many kWp that panel count produces and whether it covers your consumption.
