Sofar Solar inverters — low budget, skip for hybrid

By Fotovol Team·Updated 26 April 2026

Short answer

Sofar Solar, China, founded in 2013. Very low price, second-tier design. Works decently in the early years, but the power electronics age faster than Huawei/Sungrow. In Romania, popular for extreme-low-budget installs. 5-year warranty, but technical support is thin. Avoid for hybrid or battery installs.

When to pick it

Sofar is a limited option:

  • Simple on-grid sub-5 kWp where price is the decisive factor.
  • Cabin or holiday house — reduced use lowers the effective failure rate.
  • Distributor with Sofar track record in Romania — a few Romanian distributors have learned to "survive" with Sofar; ask for history and previous replacements.

Watch-outs

  • Sofar hybrid + battery — combination with high reported issue rates. The BMS doesn't talk perfectly to several market LFP batteries.
  • "Sofar as reliable as Huawei" promises at 30% lower price — not true. Field data confirms the gap.
  • "10-year warranty" with no written document — Sofar's standard is 5 years; extension is sold separately, not bundled by default.
