Hanwha Q-Cells panels — accessible non-Chinese premium
By Fotovol Team·Updated 26 April 2026
Short answer
Hanwha Q-Cells — German origin (Q-Cells, 1999), acquired in 2012 by Korea's Hanwha. Production now in South Korea, Malaysia and the US (the only major manufacturer with a new US plant). European-grade quality in the Mid bracket. Less aggressive on price in Romania, but warranty is taken seriously through the European office. Recommended if you value post-install support over the rock-bottom price.
When to pick it
Q-Cells is "accessible premium" within Mid:
- You want a non-Chinese brand at Mid pricing — Q-Cells is the Korean alternative (with German roots). Q.PEAK DUO ML-G11+ at 22% is good for residential.
- Standard 5–12 kWp residential where you value European support more than EUR 200 saved.
- Q-Cells Berlin office — direct EU warranty handling, no diplomacy with Chinese factories.
Watch-outs
- "Q.Peak" generic confusion vs recent models — Q.Peak (gen 1, 2017) sold at Q.Peak DUO XL G11 prices (gen 4, 2024) — 4-generation gap, 1.5% efficiency.
- Malaysia vs Korea stock — for EU markets, Q-Cells manufactures in South Korea and Malaysia. US lots (Georgia) are IRA-oriented, different pricing.
- "Made in Germany" promises — Q-Cells no longer manufactures in Germany since 2018. Central office is there, factory isn't.
