The Symo / Primo / GEN24 inverters are appreciated for native integration with heat pumps and EV chargers — they speak to "smart home" ecosystems out of the box. European quality, priced similarly to SMA. Service in Romania through certified partners; spare parts arrive relatively quickly from Austria.
When to pick it
Fronius has a real edge on smart-home integration:
- House with heat pump — Fronius Smart Meter + Ohmpilot orchestrates surplus energy directly into pump/boiler. Real self-consumption gain: 15–25% over a Sungrow + classic thermostat setup.
- EV wallbox — GEN24 Plus + Wattpilot deliver excess solar charging to the car automatically. Works without a Tesla module and without KSE.
- Data-loving owners — Fronius Solar.web is one of the most polished end-user apps.
Watch-outs
- Fronius on standalone systems without heat pump/EV — the price overhead (similar to SMA) isn't justified without the integrated ecosystem.
- "Symo Hybrid" vs "GEN24 Plus" models — different generations, different software. GEN24 is the 2024+ generation with OTA-ready 5G support.
- Non-certified distributors — access to Austrian spare parts and extended warranty requires an official Fronius partner.
